05 - Femi Temowo
I HAVE FOUND THAT, THE MORE CONTROL THE ARTIST HAS, THE HAPPIER THEY ARE
We can't believe we are already at Episode 5 of our podcast! Thanks so much for all who are listening, and special thanks to those who have feedback to us, we are SO glad these chats are proving helpful and informative.
Femi Temowo, jazz musician, educator, producer, radio broadcaster and MD, kindly sat down with us, and graciously allowed us to ask him a bunch of questions. It was such an fun & full conversation!
We spoken about his start in music, the fact that he hardly ever listened to music before he picked up an instrument which is astonishing! Femi shared his experiences working with many internationally renowned artists, from George Benson, to The Roots, Courtney Pine and Amy Winehouse, and why he scaled back that work to focus on his solo career.
Femi offered much advice for independent and up and coming artists. We talked about working with session musicians, and how to approach them when you have limited finances, as well as how to deal with criticism, longevity, the ep vs album and much much more.
It’s so important to take every opportunity to learn from those who are further along than we are, and remaining teachable at every stage of our careers will ensure we are always growing and developing.
